NEWS & BLOG

There’s always something cooking at Babul’s, and not just in the kitchen.

We’re proud to share that Babul’s has been named SME Business of the Year at the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Awards 2025 — a recognition that means the world to us.

The annual awards celebrate organisations that champion fairness, opportunity and respect in the workplace and beyond. To be recognised among so many incredible businesses is an honour — and a reflection of the values that have guided Babul’s for 30 years.

At the heart of everything we do is a belief that food brings people together. Our team is made up of individuals from many backgrounds, faiths and walks of life, united by a shared love of great hospitality and community spirit. Together, we’ve built a culture based on empathy, teamwork and belonging — where everyone feels valued and supported.

Our community is our extended family, and giving back has always been part of who we are. From supporting local clubs and charities like Barnard Castle Golf Club to hosting our annual free Christmas Day meal for the homeless, lonely and vulnerable, we’re committed to making a difference wherever we can.

“Winning this award means a great deal to us, especially at a time when the world can feel divided,” said Managing Director Shuhel Ahmed.
“At Babul’s, we want to show that community, respect and friendship can bridge any divide. No matter your background, faith or identity, everyone deserves a place at the table.”

As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, this award reminds us why we began — to bring people together through food, culture and kindness.

Thank you to everyone who’s supported us on this journey. Here’s to the next chapter — one of connection, compassion and community.
